Artist statement
Leslie Mendez’s bold and thought provoking paintings are a result of a hope filled and pursuing approach to the brush, color and canvas. Her gentle, swift marks and brush stores are an endeavor for answers and a bigger picture. Each mark is a colorful journey, no mark is insignificant and every color has a purpose and intuitive place on the canvas. The paper and canvas are a bed of healing in which she brings all of life’s questions and struggles to. Her intention is to bring a sense of consolation to the viewer. She wants people to walk away from her paintings feeling hopeful, renewed and restored.
Leslie Mendez is a 33 year old mom of four boys and wife to an amazing husband who sparked the desire in her to start this new painting journey. She was born in Guatemala and grew up in a small neighborhood in the heart of Seattle called Beacon Hill. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art walks in Downtown Seattle and Downtown LA.
